GETTING MASCARA IN YOUR EYE

GETTING MASCARA IN YOUR EYE

Picture this:

It’s an early weekday morning, you snoozed your first two alarms, and you manage to roll out of bed with just enough time to get dressed and hustle out the door for work, your makeup bag tucked under your arm to do on the way. Maybe you're feeling confident in your multi-tasking abilities and try to apply a quick layer of foundation and dress up your eyes at each stoplight, and then…

Oops! Mascara in eye!

First thing's first - don't panic.

Most of the time the initial startle from your wand touching your cornea is the worst part. Give yourself a few seconds to take a deep breath and blink away that uncomfortable feeling.

If this doesn’t work, there is a chance some mascara or maybe an eyelash is stuck in your eye, and you may not be able to just blink it away. You can try flushing it out with water or saline solution first, but avoid rubbing. If you haven’t already scratched your cornea with the wand, it’s fairly easy to do so if you rub your eye when it has a foreign object in it. According to an article from AllAboutVision.com, this is called a corneal abrasion. It will cause irritation, redness, and sensitivity to light, and it also makes you more susceptible to infection. Make sure you do your best to keep your eye and the surrounding area clean and seek an eye doctor or emergency treatment as soon as possible. Depending on the severity of the abrasion, they will likely prescribe non-preserved lubricating drops to keep the eye hydrated and comfortable while the cornea endures its natural healing process.

Before you know it, your eye will be back to normal! Great news, right? But maybe this hassle could have been avoided altogether. Take a moment to check in with yourself.

Getting mascara in your eye can be a metaphor for anxiety.

Just like the nagging pain that comes from scratching your eye, negative thoughts in the back of our minds can affect our mood, productivity, and outlook on life. Generally, as women we tend to feel the need to achieve our personal perceptions of perfection, whether or not this will bring us a sense of intrinsic happiness. The real challenge here is figuring out what will #createhappy for you. It may come from close relationships with friends, quality time with family, seeking adventure, or achieving your goals in work or school. Regardless, it is important to take care of your mind and body by pursuing these aspects of your life that serve you, because ultimately, you’re the only one who gets to live your life!

How can we transition from wanting to hit that snooze button repeatedly to being more excited to take on the day ahead?

It can be a lot harder than it sounds to just kind of “snap out of it” when you get in a rut and you may not be as excited to hop out of bed and start your day as you once were. But never fear – you can get that feeling back! For many people it just takes a little spark of inspiration and motivation to kickstart the transition. Here are a few changes you can try to implement to feel refreshed and on track again:

  • Go to bed at a decent hour. Ladies, you have probably heard this a million times, but it actually makes a huge difference to get the right amount of sleep every night. It may be a little different for individuals, but just notice how you feel when you get 3-4 hours of sleep versus 7-8 hours. A good night’s sleep will determine your whole day!
  • Get out of bed on the first alarm. A lot of people put their phone out of reach before they go to bed so that they have to get up to turn off their alarm in the morning. This is a great tactic because it energizes your body a little bit and you’ll probably realize that it will be better to start getting ready than to backtrack into that sleepy state.
  • Take care of your body and mind. There is a great article here on the 8 dimensions of wellness and associated self-care activities to address them day-to-day. This can really help you stay in tune with your wants, needs, and feelings, helping you to figure out that intrinsic happiness we talked about.

Every once in awhile, TREAT YOURSELF! Everyone has different obligations and goals and worries they are dealing with every day, why not reward yourself periodically for all your hard work?

Speaking of, a great way to "treat yourself" is with a My Little Mascara Club subscription!

My Little Mascara Club launched in the spring of 2020 with The Best Little Mascara Ever, it’s one formula living up to its name spreading happiness from lash to lash with natural ingredients replacing gluten, parabens, mineral oil, beeswax, and paraffins. Our product is healthier because it comes in a smaller tube that lasts less than the FDA recommended 3-month expiration; it’s practical because it won’t dry out and get clumpy before empty; it’s less waste and it’s easier to apply because the shorter wand gives more control. Having the hand closer to the eye provides more steadiness, and better angles for longer, fuller looking lashes.

Besides the fact that we offer an amazing product, one of the best parts of your new subscription is the Little Box of Happy that comes with it! But we’re not giving it away right now! You’ll have to sign up for the cutest surprise!

Let's review what we have learned today!

  • Multitasking diminishes the quality of your work.

We live in a time where there is so much information being thrown at us from all directions and productivity expectations are high, but the best way to cope is by taking it one step at a time. Give each individual task your full attention, and you will be able to get things done faster and better. (AKA make sure you’re somewhere steady and don’t be tempted to apply your mascara on a moving train or in the car!)

  • When you get mascara in your eye, don’t panic.

First, take a deep breath, let the shock factor subside, and try to blink away that uncomfortable feeling. If you think you’ve scratched your cornea, see a doctor to get it healed up nice and quick!

  • Practice self-love by creating realistic expectations for yourself.

Finally, assess whether you want to implement some small changes in your life that contribute to your own internal sense of contentment. This is so important. Making an effort to do little things like getting enough sleep and starting your day off on the right foot, taking some time for self-care and treating yourself every now and then (however that may look) will only serve your overall wellbeing.
